I was actually having the breast feeding discussion quite in depth with some people the other day, one of whom, (a gay man who doesn't want children anyway), was definitely advocating for it, and apparently 7 is the average age across the world for weaning, which when you consider in western culture the average age is much lower implies it must carry on much longer elsewhere... maybe due to needing it as a source of sterile food. I dunno. (I've just remembered about that whole Nestle controversy). though I don't know where he got this statistic from. He was making an arguement for it being seen as sexual and this contributing to the taboo as it gets older, and women being vain about the effect to their breasts, but it actually helping them get their figure back/lose weight. He said he believes it adds to the connection between mother and child and doesn't see why (ignoring the possibility of breast pumps anyway) mothers needs to feel so insecure that they need to assert their independence from their child immediately. Though he says he wouldn't judge someone who just found it too painful or difficult. My sister, who is expecting her first child, said quite simply, she'd want to give it a try, but not indefinately, partly out of practicalality for going back to work after maternity leave, and because she'll have already abstained from alcohol etc for the duration of the pregnancy anyway, and she'd like to own her own nipples again at some point. And once the child has teethed and on to solid food anyway seems a suitable kind of time to her. Plus, there's that (possibly myth?) suggestion that you can't get pregnant again while still breastfeeding...
anyway, it was an interesting discussion.
I was breastfed until I was two and a half apparently, my mum said she let me wean myself. My eldest brother was 9 months, but she said it got longer with each child, as she got more confident and comfortable with it.

That wasn't quite how I meant the comment to come out! I generally submit the TV reviews to another website and the average length there can be from 1500-3000 words. The point of the word length is that if you haven't seen the programme then there's enough detail in my review to not make that important.

Nice Review. Very Lengthy. Have only seen this show once before, but not this particular episode.

I love this type of programme. Not because its credible or even paticularly entertaining. It just makes me realise that my debt is actually nothing compared with these phsyco spendaholic bitches!

Thank you for providing me with a couple of hours of entertainment - yes I read them all - I've been saving them for such an afternoon as this - it's miserable and raining. Intelligent and amusing comment on your tv viewing. The only programme of these that I've seen was the Guy's and Dolls one. Well I had to find out what sort of wierdo goes for this kind of thing, didn't I? However, not seeing any of the others did not diminish my pleasure in reading about them.
